【The big bear club okinawa】はハーフアメリカンの子供達とシングルペアレンツのためのグループです。
沖縄の公立学校に通っている子供達に、英語圏の文化に触れさせることで彼らの健全な自己の確立を目的として、1998年8月にスタートしました。
以下、BBC創立者 基本理念です。
「基本的目的は、子供達と親が仲間に出会い、集える場であること
また、英語を希望する子供達に学ぶ機会を与える場として、
将来にわたって英語は、子供達の人格形成の過程で、大きく影響すると考えます。
英語が話せるようになることが目的ではなく、
英語に対し親しみ楽しみをもって成長できるよう、
また、アメリカの血を受け継いでいることが、健やかな成長を妨げることのないよう
日本とアメリカの両方を持っていることを誇りに思えるようにサポートしていきましょう」
現在リーダーの変更があり、活動は縮小されてはいますが、
立ち上げてくださった方々の想いを引き継ぐものとして続けていきたい所存です。
各イベントや英会話教室を通じて、子どもたちはもちろん、親同士での交流も楽しんで参加していただければと思います。
A massage from the founder
There are a great number of American heritage children living here in Okinawa who know very little about their heritage. Knowing or not knowing English can have a great impact on these children in their early development. American heritage children who become fluent in English have a better self-esteem and are self-confidant, they also learn to become more trusting of their environment outside of their family circle.
The big bear club was founded in August 1998 to help encourage these children to develop into a whole individual without indecision. I’d like to thank you for responding to our call to participate in our club and in the future of our children.
Our goals and purpose
The primary goal of the big bear club is to build self-esteem for children of American heritage living here on Okinawa, giving them the necessary tools they will need in a life to meet the challenges of growing up encouraging cultural and educational growth thorough positive reinforcement to motivate our children to follow their dreams.
